5 reasons why I'd be more excited about a Google watch

I think I'm not alone in my apathy toward the media coverage of Google Glass released in the wild to select "lucky" individuals. Personally, I have never once wondered how I could get my own hands on Google Glass. If offered a pair to try out, most likely, I'd politely turn them down.

I am more excited about the Google smartwatch rumors that have been floating about since March. I was disappointed when there was no mention of a smartwatch during the hours-long Google I/O keynote this past week. Of all the best times to announce that a smartwatch product is in the works, that was the best of them.

No such luck.

There are just so many flaws in the Google Glass concept, and so many possibilities with a Google smartwatch concept. Here are my five reasons for favoring a smartwatch over smartglasses:

From ZDNet: if you are running IE8, patch it now

According to an article today from ZDNet, Microsoft has released a critical patch for Internet Explorer 8 to fix "a critical zero-day vulnerability that [is] being actively exploited in the wild."

Initially, the vulnerability seemed to affect just Windows XP users running IE8, but the vulnerability has since been confirmed for Windows 7 machines. To be on the safe side, assume it affects all versions of the Windows OS, including the Windows Server versions.

If you're running IE8, Microsoft recommends that you install the April cumulative security update first and then run the Fix It application that patches the vulnerability. Both the links for the security update and the Fix It patch are available in the ZDNet article.

My personal recommendation is that after you perform those two fixes, update to IE9 or IE10 already, and join the rest of the updated world.
